BC Racecar Company on The Podium at Edmonton Indy |
|
July 26, 2009- Chilliwack, BC based Fusion Racecars made it to the podium (3rd) in Sunday's Eurasia cup GT Invitational Race at the Edmonton Indy with their Lucas Oil sponsored racecar. "It was an amazing weekend" said Dennis Bainbridge President and Driver for Fusion Racecars. "After the challenges we faced last year when a supplier's product destroyed two engines on us, it was very rewarding to put the FRC-14 on the podium. We even had a chance to win, but a poorly timed yellow came out just as I was starting to take a shot at the lead" said Bainbridge.
Fusion's surprising race car had thousands of fans cheering them on as Bainbridge battled with the much higher horse powered GT cars.
The story of this "little company that could" started four years ago when partners Dennis Bainbridge and Titus Midgley decided they could build a better race car. A year and a half later, their design took to the track and won its first race. That led to a string of podiums in virtually every race they have entered since, from Mission BC to Road Atlanta in Georgia. It also looks like the old racing adage of "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" is still applicable today even when it's 3rd. "It's amazing how quickly the Edmonton result has increased the level of interest in the car", said Bainbridge, " it's only Wednesday and I have already had calls from people who saw the car at the Indy. They are interested in changing from their current cars to a Fusion. I even had a call from someone interested in taking a bunch of the cars to Dubai". They also noticed a 27% increase in new visitors to their website www.FusionRacecars.com
The cars themselves are a very versatile Sports Racer that seats 2 and has an enclosed cockpit for safety. The second seat means that in addition to racing it at events like the Indy and Endurance racing, it can also be used for Trackday events where owners can bring their cars out to tracks for lapping days without the pressure of racing.
The Rexall Edmonton Indy was very important for Fusion for a few reasons. Not only was it a great stage with ten's of thousands of fans, but it was also a great place to unveil their new model. The Honda powered FRC-K20.
The Fusion racecars are available in 2 models, the FRC-14 (the model raced at the Indy) has the Kawasaki ZX-14 motorcycle engine in it and the new FRC-K20 has the Honda Civic Si car engine. Tops speed on the cars can go as high as 165mph (265km) depending on the engine.
