Dec 11, 2008- With the 2009 racing season is fast approaching, Fusion Racecars has expanded production and incorporated a number of upgrades the will become standard equipment on the 2009 models.
On the production side, the Fusion elves have 5 new chassis being welded on the assembly line. As of this writing all cockpit and rear clips are completed. Sub-assemblies for the front clips have also been completed and as soon as a couple of critical parts are received from the laser cutters, the front clips can be finished. It was hoped that by Christmas time we will be starting to assemble the three sections for complete chassis but unfortunately all the bad weather just before Christmas delayed the chromoly shipment.
The new chassis will incorporate all the latest upgrades; revised side crush zones to allow for aero tunnels, large exit ducts from the front wheel wells to allow better air flow and reduce drag, modified engine and transfer unit mounts to allow for easier removal, center-lug wheel mounting, larger diameter bearings in the A-arms, the A-arms now have adjustable rod-ends, lighter and simpler half-shafts, drivers seat sits closer to the center of the chassis, to name a few.
We are also developing new lighter bodywork and the overall effect of all the changes is a car that is approximately 150lbs lighter than the original prototype.
As a teaser, you can look forward to some significant news resulting from PRI and other projects we have been working on recently.
